HOW BIT SERVICE FITS INTO THE SASKATCHEWAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

By: Evan Lucyk

In the 1930s, British botanist Arthur Tansley first coined the term “ecosystem” to categorize a community of organisms interacting with—and relying upon—each other to survive, evolve, and thrive. Decades later, in 1993, business strategist James Moore created an ingenious spin on this biological concept, applying it as a direct parallel to various companies operating in the increasingly intertwined world of commerce.

As Moore saw it, no company should be viewed as just a single and autonomous entity in an industry, but rather as a member of an interconnected business ecosystem consisting of other “organisms” that span multiple industries.

In a nutshell, we are all interconnected in a way, and even though some of these industries´ partnerships make for “strange bedfellows,” as Shakespeare would say—Bit Service is now officially among them.

You might be wondering how we got involved in the Saskatchewan construction industry. It actually came about in an organic and happenstance kind of way, and things just immediately clicked from there.

Just like every relationship, there are qualities that one party offers that the other party is looking for. And Bit Service ticks off a lot of critical boxes on the Saskatchewan construction industry’s “list”.

After all, our decades of experience and work in the Canadian mining industry have provided us with invaluable lessons that make us a highly complementary potential partner. Specifically, we’re naturally able to transfer some of the lessons we’ve learned from underground mining. How we design, manufacture, and repair equipment is another point in our favour. We’ve also begun branching out, bit by bit (literally), doing different repairs and upgrades to existing construction equipment.

We chalk this successful partnership with the Saskatchewan construction industry up to how surprisingly transferrable our skills are from underground mining to assisting in the construction realm, since it's a very similar type of repair that we do on the two types of equipment.

Examples of this include repairs and upgrades to excavators, earth moving equipment, and front-end loaders. Specifically, we consistently provide a higher wearing and better quality repair for their equipment when it breaks, or whenever it's needed.

Another reason we make such a great partnership? Bit Service can handle essential repairs on our ground engaging equipment, such as fixing the scoop for an excavator or a front-end loader, and we even handle any necessary fixes on grader blades.

Finally, being based out of our Saskatoon facility—which essentially makes us a one-stop shop for housing welding, manufacturing, and fabrication capabilities—is just the icing on the cake that proves we are an unexpected-yet-strong asset for the Saskatchewan construction industry.
