OUR PARTNERS, BOWDIL

By: Scott Bahr

Bowdil is an Ohio-based company that has been manufacturing trim chains for underground potash mining for several decades, and we are proud to be their exclusive Canadian partner. With consistent design improvements and refining, their trim chains continually match evolving potash mining conditions.

We are proud to be working with and purchasing products from a North American company like Bowdil. When we have such high-quality manufacturers in our close trading partners, it makes a lot of sense to support them.

Selecting the trim chain to use on an underground boring machine is an information-heavy process. Today we will be highlighting some benefits of a Bowdil trim chain to help with your decision process.

Modular design

Because Bowdil's conical trim chain has a modular design, parts are easily replaceable and serviceable. The design also allows for adaptability to varying the cutting width and rebuilding at specified service intervals. All these design features combine to create a trim chain that can change to suit different mining conditions. Bowdil has trim chains that are convenient for the end-user and a high level of service life to match.

Precise machining

Bowdil is known for its high level of precision in both machining and component fit in the final assembly. Extensive investment in cutting edge CNC machining centers and inspection procedures allows for highly accurate and consistent component production. This, their advanced quality control procedures and expert in-house heat treating, provide a reliable product expected by the potash industry.

Quality control

Bit Service has been providing an inspection and rebuild program for the Bowdil trim chains ever since our partnership began in the early days. This is something that significantly benefits our mining partners. Since the design of Bowdil's trim chains have such a high level of servicability, our Bit Service team can effectively integrate a preventative maintenance rebuild program into our customer’s operations. Extending the chain's service life through regular maintenance intervals provides long-term cost savings to the mine and allows for added benefits. During the inspection process, our operators will often observe and report unusual wear patterns that can be relayed to mine maintenance personnel. In many cases, this can alert them to required maintenance conditions on the boring machine, preventing further damage and downtime. Our trim chain repair procedures can be read about in more depth in our Guide to Inspecting and Repairing Trim Chain

Bit Service has a team of qualified technical representatives who can walk you through the process of deciding which trim chain is best for you. Get in contact if you need any further information about trim chains or other operational needs.
