CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF BRINGING BIT SERVICE SOLUTIONS

The Greek philosopher Epictetus had strong opinions about leadership, specifically about what makes a good leader. Epictetus encouraged all leaders to: “Make it your business to draw out the best in others by being an exemplar yourself.”

Here at Bit Service, we have been lucky enough to have enjoyed the strong leadership of our President and CEO, Scott Bahr, for going on two decades now. Scott unfailingly adopts this very mindset—leading by example—as he helps our team continue to offer our clients the best service and expertise. He brings out the best in us all so that we can better serve our clients every day.

There is no doubt in our minds that we wouldn’t be the company we are today without Scott’s stellar leadership. Scott is not a man who delegates remotely and then sits in his corner office while the worker bees toil. Instead, he practices what he preaches, rolling up his sleeves and getting to work alongside us.

As we celebrate Scott on his 20 years of bringing his unique skills to the Bit Service team, we sat down to talk to him about his role here.

Scott started his career in technical support and design with an engineering background. These days, he spends far more time in a business development role, with an eye towards future relationships, innovations, and opportunities.

Scott says that what he likes the most about working at Bit Service is having the opportunity to problem solve and help industry colleagues find solutions to their mechanical issues. As to his favorite aspect of his job itself, Scott gets excited about the diversity of heavy equipment and mining machines he works with daily at Bit Service.

Since he first started at Bit Service in 2001, Scott’s biggest accomplishments have been developing and manufacturing some iconic and industry-standard carbide-tipped cutting tools for underground mining. As for lessons learned, Scott says there have been plenty, the biggest of which he said would be “to not rest on your accomplishments, and to always look for possible areas of improvement.”

Looking toward the future, Scott’s goal for his next decade at Bit Service is to bring the company’s decades of expertise in underground potash mining and apply this to solidify its place as a staple in underground hardrock and metals mining. Also, moving forward, Scott plans to carry on with his dedication to diversity and inclusion, something that has always been important to the Bit Service company. You can read about it in more detail here.

Scott is excited to continue to affect real change in how Bit Service operates and interacts in our community. He believes that “being able to show leadership through our actions, but also in aligning with the values of our key clients helps to push the industry forward to a better place.”

Finally, we asked Scott about some of the innovations he has seen that have been particularly exciting and noteworthy. Scott explained: “In terms of product technology, the biggest innovations have come in the form of quality repeatability of manufacturing techniques. A great deal of innovation in controls, monitoring, and inspection methods have made leaps in the consistency and reliability of mining equipment and consumables in our industry.”
