CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

By: Scott Bahr

Here at Bit Service, we have made a name for ourselves as an organization dedicated to delivering a wide range of solutions for the Canadian mining, construction, and materials handling industries. We have vowed—and stood by—our commitment to providing the highest quality solutions and products, and in providing the best service possible to our customers.

We also want you to have peace of mind in knowing that we are equally committed to investing just as many resources, time, and energy into doing our part to strengthen the local societal framework of our community here in Canada. We believe in not only being concerned with profits and business, but in giving back, and making sure that we are leaving our surrounding communities a better place.

For this reason, we wanted to highlight just a few of the ways the Bit Service family is dedicated to serving the community, which we all see as our extended family—in honor of investing in this wonderful place we are privileged to call home.

DEDICATION TO DIVERSITY

Bit Service’s dedication to diversity and inclusion is unwavering. We have made this a top priority by having a mandate to support community initiatives that specifically benefit Indigenous equity, gender diversity, and marginalized youth. We are dedicated to diversity and being the best version of ourselves as a company known for empowering, supporting, and continually improving all aspects of life—for all.

The need is great, as currently, in Canada, women, minorities, and immigrants are vastly underrepresented. We are trying to address this in our own workplace by adhering to strict and ethical hiring practices and awareness education. We are also committed to helping create positive change by partnering with organizations that provide support on an emotional and investment level to our local community.

Specifically, Bit Service has become a part of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce (SCC)’s Indigenous Engagement Charter, a task force explicitly designed to help bridge the Indigenous engagement gap and bring the Saskatchewan Indigenous population to the same economic level as the Non-Indigenous population.

VOLUNTEERISM

Bit Service also participates in volunteer efforts with community-based organizations, using our time and energy to give back wherever we can. Just a few of the events and endeavors we have proudly sponsored over the years include the Women of Distinction Awards and the Fill the Backpack Campaign, a yearly event providing school supplies to core city youth.

SPONSORSHIP AND LOCAL SUPPORT

We also sponsor and support many organizations that are out there in the community daily, making such a difference in people’s lives. These organizations include such worthy endeavors as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Saskatoon Interval House, The Saskatoon YWCA, Inclusion Saskatchewan, Saskatoon Community Foundation, and Truth and Reconciliation Initiatives in the Province.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

I personally believe in walking the walk and leading by example, which is why I am doing my utmost to lead the charge in service to our community here at Bit Service. I am a proud member of the Board of Directors with Saskatoon Interval House, a mentor for BBBS, and a mentor for WIM/WIN, an organization whose goal is to increase opportunities and gender equity in the mining industry.

Let’s face it, serving our local communities is not a new concept. In fact, over 2,300 years ago, the famed Greek philosopher Aristotle even classified it as essential. “What is the essence of life?” he asked, “To serve others and to do good.”

We couldn’t agree more and are committed to doing just that every day.
